I was born in Potenza, Italy, in 1964.
I obtained the degree of electrical engineer from the Polytechnic University of Bari in 1990. From the same university I received my Ph.D. in Computer Engineering in 1995.
From 1997 to 2001 I served at the University of Lecce as a researcher. From 2001 to 2020 I was an associate professor at the same university, then I moved at University of Bari where I currently teaches: "Computer Programming", "Data Management" and "Ethics, Privacy and Security".
My research interests are in digital health, conceptual modeling of data and software systems, digital humanities and learning technologies.
Since 2001, I have directed or participated in 4 European projects, 12 national research projects, and numerous regionally or privately funded projects and activities.
From 2019 to 2022 I served as Director of the Research Center on Digital Humanities at the University of Salento.
In 2018, I founded the CINI Working Group on Digital Health, which includes 50 research groups working in 40 Italian universities. In 2022 the working group became the CINI National Laboratory of Digital Health and I am its current Director.
I am also a member of the Technical Board for Health and Environment created by the Ministry of Health in March 2023.
From 1992 I published more than 180 research papers which have been published on international journals and presented at international conferences.
